Remains of the Italian occupation of Rhodes through the eyes of Lawrence Durrell
Before the island of Rhodes was handed back to Greece after centuries of occupation by Turks, Italians and Germans it was administered briefly by Britain. Durrell wrote his famous account “Reflections of a Marine Venus” in 1853 after having been stationed there.
This talk by Dr Michael Heinze takes Durrell's writing as a launching pad to explore this fascinating part of Rhodes' history.
