IMPORTANT: Due to the current virus outbreak all ESC events are suspended until further notice!

Update, April 19:

We hope you are all keeping well in these unprecedented times! It is sad not to be seeing any of you for so long!

As the present restrictions continue until at least May 4th, it will be clear that our meeting on Saturday, 25th April, cannot take place.

The Orange Planet Theatre, like other theatre groups, has not been able to rehearse, and their other May performances have already been cancelled, so we have agreed that their readings on Saturday, 9th May, will not take place either. The chances are high that they would still not be allowed anyway.

We hope to be able to re-schedule both these events in another semester.

And in view of the closeness of the contact involved in a Scrabble evening, we are stating right now that our meeting on Saturday, 13th June, will not take place either.

It is very disappointing to have such a long period without events. As compensation to members for the cancelled events between March and June, we plan to reduce membership for 2021 for those who have paid a membership fee for 2020.

If an easing of restrictions during the summer allows us to expect a return to something like a normal cultural program, then we would hope to issue the autumn program during July or August, with or without a late summer outing.

Wishing you a healthy and happy summer in spite of the restrictions!

English Speakers’ Circle

Please stay tuned and check here for new information.

About us

The English Speakers' Circle was formed in the early 1960s and has always been part of ‘die Brücke’, the International Education Centre, which today includes over 25 international clubs and societies closely linked to the Volkshochschule for Adult education.

Our main activities are talks in English on topics of general interest, often by native speakers. We organize occasional English theatre performances and special events such as a summer outing.

Meetings

Our normal meetings are on Saturdays at 17:30h every two, three or four weeks during the VHS terms in the 3rd floor Club Room (room no. 306) at Kasernenstraße 6, 40213 Düsseldorf, near the underground station Heinrich-Heine-Allee.

Prior registration for the normal club meetings is NOT necessary. A small fee is charged for non-members.

Theatre evenings

Our theatre performances are normally at the 'Weiterbildungszentrum', the VHS building in Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz immediately behind the mainline station and are on a weekday evening, often Friday. Advanced purchase of numbered seats is possible for these performances at our meetings (or phone Susan).

Membership

Membership of the Circle is for a calendar year; this gives free entry to meetings in the club room and reductions on our arranged theatre performances and some special events.
