About us

The English Speakers' Circle was formed in the early 1960s and had been part of ‘die Brücke’, the International Education Centre, which used to include over 25 international clubs and societies closely linked to the Volkshochschule for Adult education.

Our main activities are talks in English on topics of general interest, often by native speakers. We organize occasional English theatre performances and special events such as a summer outing.

Meetings

Our normal meetings are on Saturdays at 16:30h every two, three or four weeks and will take place at the Haus der Kulturen at Yorckstraße 19-21, 40476 Düsseldorf-Derendorf (details follow).

Prior registration for the normal club meetings is NOT necessary. A small fee is charged for non-members.

Theatre evenings

Our theatre performances are normally at the 'Weiterbildungszentrum', the VHS building in Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz immediately behind the mainline station and are on a weekday evening, often Friday. Advanced purchase of numbered seats is possible for these performances at our meetings (or phone Susan).

Membership

Membership of the Circle is for a calendar year; this gives free entry to meetings in the club room and reductions on our arranged theatre performances and some special events.
